The time has come when the "march" to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar has
begun. It started in 2003 when the nine-member board of the San Diego County
Regional Airport Authority (SDCRAA) worked towards a site recommendation for a
future regional airport scenario as a ballot proposition for a countywide vote.
The SDCRAA has spent close to $4 million of the county taxpayers money to hire
consultants and public relations firms to “educate” the public regarding their
position, which has always seemed to be Miramar. The military has told the
Airport Authority time and time again that this proposal is unsafe and
incompatible. At their June 5, 2006 meeting, the Airport Authority made their
position official by voting 7-2 to approve MCAS Miramar as the recommended
joint use airport site for the November 2006 county-wide ballot. This is not a
viable solution.
That is why we are here – to stop the "march toward Miramar".
We are a group of concerned citizens who came together to form "NO on Prop A"
to oppose the Fall 2006 vote proposed by the SDCRAA for dual or shared use of
MCAS Miramar for scheduled commercial air and military air operations.
It has now come down to you, the San Diego County voter, to make an important
decision that could affect the future of San Diego. This is one issue that will
unite all voters of San Diego County. Our common links are our concerns for:
-
Safety
-
National Security
-
Gross waste of taxpayer money
-
Gridlock (both air and freeway)
